Westbrook was responsible for topographic survey, detailed design of site servicing and storm water management and construction inspection. Westbrook’s involvement in the project also included coordinating with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and the Island Corridor Foundation (which operates the former Esquimalt and Nanaimo Railway corridor).
Additionally, Westbrook identified existing municipal servicing available and designed new servicing within the development and designed a storm water management system according to the City of Nanaimo specifications. The storm water management system included underground detention tanks and rain gardens to provide detention and treatment, as well as a pre-assembled oil-grit interceptor as an additional treatment measure. Storm water detention and treatment were a key aspect of the project as the creation of the large impervious surface area meant a significant increase in storm water flow would be generated and high level of hydro carbons would be contained in the runoff due to the intended use of the site. Without proper management and treatment negative downstream effects could occur.
The project was completed in the spring of 2014.
