The Approach
The development of the Campus Acura on Oak Street in the District of Saanich involved the redevelopment of a former commercial / office building that was damaged by a significant fire, into an automobile sales dealership. The project included demolition of the most heavily damaged part of the original building and an extensive renovation of the remaining portion.
Westbrook Consulting provided civil engineering services for the project. Westbrook’s role included identifying existing services throughout the site and preparing a detailed design of upgraded services to the renovated building and remediation and expansion of the parking lot areas. Westbrook also provided design of frontage works, including curb and sidewalk along Valley Avenue, adjacent to the site. During construction, Westbrook provided construction inspection and survey layout services for all civil works.
A particular challenge of the project was to design a workable parking lot and other related infrastructure, while remaining cognisant of the Owner’s need to keep remediation costs within a set budget.
Detailed design work was completed during 2010 with construction following in 2011.
