The Opportunity

Charter Telecom’s new headquarters will be located at 2614 Sooke Road in the City of Langford. The new headquarters will consist of a four storey building containing one floor of covered parking and bicycle storage, two floors of office space and a combination of an event space and residential suite on the final floor.

The Approach

Charter Telecom’s new headquarters will be located at 2614 Sooke Road in the City of Langford. The new headquarters will consist of a four storey building containing one floor of covered parking and bicycle storage, two floors of office space and a combination of an event space and residential suite on the final floor.

Westbrook Consulting was engaged to prepare a storm water management plan, site servicing and frontage work improvement design.

 The building is accessed from Sooke Road with a loading bay on the south side of the building. Westbrook Consulting worked with the architect and landscape architect to maximize the vegetated area and ensure the functionality of the parking area and loading bay. Westbrook also worked with the architect to design a loading bay and site entrance that accommodated both the loading bay requirements and pedestrian traffic.

As part of the storm water management system, vegetated areas, swales and oil/grit separators were designed to treat the storm water before it is infiltrated into the existing ground.

The most challenging design aspect of the project was tying in the proposed frontage improvements with the existing infrastructure on the neighboring lots while allowing for the required truck turning movements.

Construction on the project is scheduled to start in the spring of 2018. As the project moves into the construction phase, Westbrook Consulting will be providing inspection and layout services.
