Metchosin Road Improvements

The Opportunity

The City of Colwood embarked on a capital works project to improve the northern section of Metchosin Road between Lagoon Road and Hatley Drive.

The improvements included providing multi-modal routes such as sidewalks and separated bike lanes, as well as defined parking bays, crosswalks, and traffic calming median islands.

The Approach

Westbrook provided the conceptual design, detailed design, preparation of tender documents, contract administration, and construction inspection throughout the project.

Challenges included minimizing disruption on a main collector road, as well as limiting the impact to the existing trees within the municipal boulevard. The traffic challenges were overcome by working with the municipality to develop a tailor made traffic control plan, and the preservation of the vegetation was met by meandering the works around significant trees.

The Result

The project was completed in 2018.
